How does Google rank websites in 2020?

When you search for something and a certain website shows up before yours. This is done by Google algorithm of ranking a site. There are many ranking factors that the algorithm checks before pushing it to the results. These factors are very complex to understand, confusing you to understand which factors to improve for better ranking. This article will help you understand some of the factors used by the algorithm to rank your site in 2020:

Click rate and Bounce rate:

Google algorithm checks the number of clicks your website receives after a certain search is made for a certain phrase your website ranks for. The algorithm generates a percentage.

The higher the percentage the better ranking you will get, as your content is more appealing to viewers as compared to others. When your click rate increases google ranks your site higher in the search results page.

The bounce rate is also checked. The bounce rate is the assessment of the number of people that hit the back page button from your site to go back to search results. If 500 people visit your site and all of them hit the back page button within seconds, your bounce rate is high and Google will not rank your site higher as it finds your content irrelevant to the search.

Site age:

It is another important factor that is checked when it comes to ranking. Most of the top sites shown in the result page are a few years old. Many of these sites have a high click rate and more backlinks but not all of them.

If you create a new website with catchy content and add relevant links, you will not get more search traffic than the old sites. This can only be solved over time; you have to keep improving and adding content on your site and as your website gets older you will receive more traffic.

Content quality:

Google checks the quality of content you are uploading after its recent update. It checks if there is any duplicate content on your site or very less content than average. Many of the well-ranking websites have very high-quality content making them rank better than their competitors.

Google checks your content and compares it with the other sites. If your content results in higher quality, your website will rank better than others and you will more likely outrank them soon.

Backlinks:

Incoming links to a webpage are called Backlinks. They are considered to be important for a website ranking. Google just does not look into the number of backlinks it also looks at the relevancy and authority.

If you have a few links and they come from renowned domains like .com, .edu or .gov extensions, your website will be ranked well. Google algorithm can also analyze the content of the backlink and your webpage to check if the content matches and the backlink is relevant to it. If your backlinks and your webpage content do not match, Google will not rank your website because it will be declared unauthentic.
